Pentax smc da 16 50mm f 2 8 ed al if sdm vs pentax 16 50mm f 2 8?
I can't do a direct comparison here. I only have a page for the Pentax smc DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM, and it says that model was replaced by a PLM version. I don't have a page for the plain 16-50mm f/2.8 you mentioned, so I won't guess at how they differ.
The DA* is a fast APS-C zoom with autofocus that works on the whole Pentax K range, from the K-7 up to the K-3 Mark III and KF. It isn't stabilised, though. If you want something lighter and cheaper, the Pentax smc DA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL is also an APS-C zoom. My landscape guide makes the case that f/4 zooms are plenty for most landscape work, since you'll usually stop down to f/8 or f/11 anyway.
