How it picks
- Travel: one versatile zoom that does most things.
- Street: a small 28-40mm-equivalent prime.
- Portraits: a fast 75-135mm-equivalent prime.
- Landscape: a wide zoom starting at 18mm equivalent or wider.
- Wildlife and sport: reach: 400mm equivalent or more.
- Video: a wide lens that is stabilised or fast.
- Everyday: a fast 35-50mm-equivalent prime.
Only lenses made for the camera's mount and sensor size count. Lighter lenses win where their weight is known; the camera maker's own lenses and well-known autofocus makers are preferred; a lens that already does a job isn't doubled up. The weight budget is the whole kit, body included, counting only the weights this site knows.
