What is the leica elmarit m 21mm f 2 8 asph good for?

The Leica Elmarit-M 21mm f/2.8 ASPH is a manual-focus wide prime for full-frame Leica M bodies. At 21mm it takes in a lot of the scene, so I'd reach for it for wide views and scenes with depth rather than for faces. The portraits guide warns that very wide lenses exaggerate whatever sits closest to the camera, so keep people a little further back than you think you need to.

At f/2.8 it's a middle aperture. That gives you a usable amount of light for a wide lens, but not the strong background blur of a fast lens. The lenses guide explains what the f-number means for shutter speed in dim light.

It fits many M bodies, including the Leica M10, the Leica M11 and the Leica M (Typ 240).
