You asked

What camera should I buy instead of the sony rx10 iii?

If you want the same kind of camera, I'd look at the other two Sony bridge cameras I cover. The Sony RX10 IV is the closest match. It's also a 1-inch 20.1-megapixel model, but it reaches 24-600mm equivalent, so it's the one to pick if you shoot distant wildlife or want one lens for a safari.

The Sony RX10 is the older model, from 2013. Its 24-200mm-equivalent zoom is shorter, but it has a constant f/2.8 aperture across the whole range, which the RX10 III doesn't.

If you'd rather change the camera's whole approach, read Your first camera. For most people I'd still recommend a mirrorless camera with an APS-C sensor and a kit zoom, because the money goes further in lenses. If you want something smaller, the 1-inch compact route is worth a look.
