You asked

Should I upgrade from the sony a7?

Yes, if the a7's limits are getting in your way. It has no in-body stabilisation and slow autofocus by today's standards, and both are fixed in newer bodies. The Sony a7 IV is the sensible step: 33 megapixels, and good at both stills and video. The Sony a7 V is the current all-rounder if you can stretch to it.

If you only want to try stabilised full frame without spending much, the Sony a7 II is a cheap used route. Our buying used guide explains why a body one or two generations old is often most of the camera for much less money.

Before you buy, check that your current lenses fit the new body. Your lenses will often outlast two or three camera bodies, so they're worth keeping if they do.
