You asked

Should I upgrade from the nikon z5?

Probably not for resolution alone. The Z5 has 24.3 megapixels and the Nikon Z5 II has 24.5, so on paper the difference is tiny. The Z5 II is the newer body, announced in 2025, so it's worth a look if you're missing something specific, but the number itself shouldn't drive the decision.

The Nikon Z5 IIC is the same camera without a viewfinder. Only choose it if you're happy framing on the flip-out screen.

Lenses are usually the bigger expense, so keep the ones you rely on. If you do upgrade, a body one or two generations old often gives most of the performance for less money, so check buying used first.
