You asked
Nikon d5300 vs nikon d5500?
On the specs here, these two are very close. Both have the same 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, the same Nikon F mount, and no in-body stabilisation, and they take exactly the same lenses. The listed difference is the announcement year: the Nikon D5300 came out in 2013 and the Nikon D5500 in 2015. I won't guess at other differences my pages don't cover.
Since both bodies share a lens list, I'd choose the lens first. For an everyday kit:
- Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II for general walkabout shooting
- Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G for low light and portraits
- Nikon AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR if you want reach
Neither body has stabilisation, so the VR lenses are worth having for slow shutter speeds. The focal length converter shows full-frame equivalents.
