Is the sony rx1r better than a phone?

It depends on what you want. The Sony RX1R is a full-frame compact with a fixed 35mm f/2 lens and a 24.3-megapixel sensor. There's no zoom, so you get one framing and you move your feet.

It beats a phone on the things I cover in what a camera does better than a phone. The big sensor holds up better in low light, the f/2 lens gives real background blur, and you get dials so the camera does what you intend. That's what this camera is for.

It isn't a good choice if you mostly want zoom. It also has no stabilisation, so keep your shutter speed up in dim rooms. If you want the newest model, the RX1R III has 61 megapixels, but it keeps the same fixed 35mm lens. Full details are on the RX1R page.
