Is the sony fe 100 400mm f 4 5 5 6 gm oss good for travel?

Not as your only lens. The Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS is a telephoto zoom for distant subjects like animals, birds and sport. Our Travel page is clear that a travel camera has to cover landscapes, street scenes and dim interiors without swapping lenses on a crowded square, and this lens won't do that well.

It is stabilised and fits a long list of Sony full-frame and APS-C bodies, so it makes a good second lens for a wildlife day on a trip. If you want reach that's easier to carry all day, the Sony FE 100-400mm f/5.6-8 OSS is a light (about 650 g), affordable 400mm zoom. For the whole trip, pair your body with a general-purpose zoom, and see Wildlife and sport for more on choosing reach.
