Is the sigma 100 400mm f 5 6 3 dg os hsm contemporary good for travel?

Not really, as a travel lens on its own. The travel page asks for a camera that's good at everything and light enough to carry on day five, and this is a telephoto. It's stabilised, and it reaches 400mm on full frame, but it only earns its place if your trip is mostly about wildlife or distant subjects. You'd be swapping lenses constantly for landscapes, street scenes and dim interiors. If you want reach on the road, I'd pair it with a shorter, all-round zoom, or pick a smaller system. See Travel for what I'd carry, and Wildlife and sport for where this lens makes the most sense.
