Is the pentax k s2 good for wildlife?
The K-S2 is a good wildlife body for the money. Its 1.5x crop turns a telephoto into more reach, so a 300mm lens frames like 450mm on full frame. The 20.1-megapixel sensor also gives you room to crop in.
The real question is the lens, because wildlife is the hardest thing to photograph and it's very gear-dependent. My picks from the Pentax K catalogue:
- Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 ED DC AW, for the most reach, like 225-675mm on full frame.
- [Pentax smc DA* 300mm f/4 ED [IF] SDM](/gear/lenses/pentax-smc-da-300mm-f-4-ed-if-sdm/), a fast prime for birds and distant animals.
- Pentax smc DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED WR, a more affordable zoom that covers a lot of ground.
Long lenses are also easy to try used. See buying used.
