Is the pentax k 50 good for wildlife?
The K-50 is a reasonable wildlife body, but the lens does most of the work. Wildlife is the hardest thing to photograph because the subject is far away and moves fast, so reach matters more than the camera.
On the K-50's APS-C sensor, a 150-450mm lens frames like 225-675mm on full frame. My picks from the K-50 lens list:
- Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 ED DC AW: the most reach on the list.
- [Pentax smc DA* 300mm f/4 ED [IF] SDM](/gear/lenses/pentax-smc-da-300mm-f-4-ed-if-sdm/): a fast prime for birds in good light.
- Pentax HD DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED WR: a lighter, cheaper-to-start zoom.
Long lenses are a good place to buy used, since good glass holds its value well.
