Is the nikon z 800mm f 6 3 vr s worth it?

For birds and distant wildlife, I think it's worth a look. The 800mm reach is hard to get in a lens you can carry, and this one is stabilised and autofocuses. Its Phase Fresnel element keeps it light enough to hand-hold, which is the main reason to pick it over a heavier prime. If you mostly shoot sport or closer subjects, a shorter zoom will serve you better. The wildlife guide walks through the reach trade-offs.

It fits a range of Nikon Z bodies, and on full frame it's at its best. The Z8 and Z9 are the bodies I'd pair it with for serious wildlife work. If you're on an APS-C body like the Z50, it still reaches about 1200mm equivalent, but you'll need to decide whether you need full frame at all, which the sensor guide covers. The lens's full page is here.
