Is the nikon d5500 good in low light?
The D5500 is an APS-C camera, and the sensor guide puts full frame about one stop ahead in low light. So at the same framing, expect more noise at high ISO than a full-frame body gives you. I don't have a detailed high-ISO rating for this camera, so I won't guess at one. The body also has no stabilisation, so for slow shutter speeds, use a stabilised lens.
The biggest low-light gain comes from a fast lens. From the D5500 page, I'd look at:
- Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G ED for a fast, simple prime
- Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art if you want the widest aperture
- Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR if you want a fast zoom with stabilisation
