Is the leica apo macro elmarit sl 100mm f 2 8 worth it?

It's worth it if you shoot close-up work on a full-frame L-Mount body and want a 100mm macro with autofocus. It doesn't have stabilisation, so a steady tripod or fast shutter speeds matter for handheld close-ups. On full frame it gives true 100mm framing, and on APS-C it acts like a 150mm.

The catch is depth of field. At close distances, full frame gives you very little of it, so you'll be working with thin slices of sharpness. If you shoot a lot of macro and want more depth of field, a smaller sensor may suit you better. Sensor sizes covers that trade-off, and the Focal length converter explains the framing numbers.

For a full-frame body, the Leica SL3 or the Panasonic Lumix S5 II are both sensible partners. I can't give you a price from the site, so check that before you buy.
