Is the laowa 10mm f 2 zero d mft good for astrophotography?
I don't have an astrophotography guide, so this is my read of the lens's specs. The 10mm f/2 is a sensible starting point. On Micro Four Thirds it frames like 20mm on full frame, which is wide enough to fit a good slice of the night sky. The f/2 aperture gathers plenty of light, and the aperture explainer covers why a wide opening matters in the dark.
Manual focus is a plus here. You can set focus to infinity and leave it there, rather than fighting autofocus in the dark. The lens isn't stabilised, though, so keep your exposures short and use a tripod.
Cameras I'd pair it with:
- OM System OM-3 Astro, if you want a body with astro in its name
- OM System OM-1 Mark II, a capable all-rounder
- OM System OM-5 Mark II, if you want a smaller kit
See the full Laowa 10mm f/2 Zero-D MFT page for every camera it fits.
