Best lens for astrophotography?

I don't have a lens recommendation for astrophotography on the site yet, so I won't guess at a model. The closest thing I have is the OM System OM-3 Astro. It's a camera with an IR-cut filter that passes H-alpha light, made for astro work, and it's not meant for everyday colour shots.

For lenses in general, start with Lenses. It covers third-party makers like Sigma, Tamron, Samyang and Viltrox, which often offer good value. It also explains how cheap manual-focus lenses from film cameras adapt easily to mirrorless bodies, which is a fun way to try fast lenses for night sky work. Check each lens's mount and compatibility before you buy.
