Best first lens for canon rf?

For a first lens on Canon RF, I'd start with the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. It's the cheapest fast lens on Canon mirrorless, and it's a great first prime for people, low light, and learning how a fast lens changes your pictures.

If you want more light and shallower depth of field later, the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM is Canon's first f/1.2 lens outside the L series. It weighs about 350 g, so it's still easy to carry. It costs more, though, so I'd earn it after the 50mm.

Don't spend everything on the body. Put roughly as much into lenses as into the camera, as explained in how to split the budget. For more options, browse lenses.
