You asked
Best compact camera for travel?
For a truly small travel camera, my pick is the Fujifilm X-M5. It's Fujifilm's smallest and cheapest X body, with a 26.1-megapixel APS-C sensor, and it's aimed at travel and video. There's no viewfinder, so you'll frame on the screen.
If you want full frame in a small body, look at the Panasonic Lumix S9. It has a 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor and is also viewfinder-free. Its lenses get big quickly, so think about what you'll actually carry.
If you want the smallest option of all, the pocket answer on my travel page is a 1-inch compact with a 24-200mm-equivalent zoom. It fits in a jacket, and the pictures beat a phone's once you zoom. If you can live without zoom, a fixed-lens compact with a large sensor gives superb pictures in a tiny body.
